Troubleshooting Common Issues
Having trouble launching the app? Here are the most common solutions for a smooth experience.
Q: Screen resolution looks distorted or too large?
Tux Typing is a classic application. If it appears stretched, go to the Options menu in-game and toggle “Fullscreen” to off. You can also right-click the .exe file, go to Properties > Compatibility and check “Run in 640×480 resolution” if your monitor is extremely high-res.
Q: Why is there no sound or music?
Check the Settings menu within Tux Typing to ensure sound effects and music are enabled. On Windows, ensure you have SDL_mixer libraries (included in the installer). If using Linux, make sure your user is part of the ‘audio’ group.
Q: “App cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”?
This is a standard macOS security feature for open-source apps. To fix this, Right-click (or Control-click) the app icon and select Open. In the dialog box that follows, click Open again to save Tux Typing as an exception in your security settings.
Q: Does Tux Typing support Windows 11?
Yes! The current v1.8.1 release is fully compatible with Windows 11 (23H2/24H2). We recommend running the program in Windows 7 Compatibility Mode if you experience any lag with the keyboard input response.
