Word List Help & Tips

Everything you need to know about customizing your Tux Typing experience.

Q: Can I create my own word lists?

Yes! You can open any existing .txt file from the /data/words/ folder using a text editor (like Notepad++). Simply replace the words between the <word> tags and save it as a new file. Ensure you keep the basic TXT structure intact.

Q: My new word list isn’t appearing in the game menu?

Check if the file extension is strictly .txt. Also, Tux Typing sometimes requires a full restart to index new files in the directory. If it still doesn’t show, verify that the TXT syntax is correct (no missing closing tags).

Q: Are these packs compatible with older versions of Tux Typing?

Yes. The TXT structure for word lists hasn’t changed significantly across versions. These 2026 packs will work on version 1.8.1 as well as legacy 1.7.x releases.
