Removing Tux Typing is as simple as installing it was — no uninstaller traps, no leftover accounts (there never was an account). Here is the clean removal for each platform, and how to keep your custom word lists if you are only reinstalling.
Windows (11 / 10)
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Control Panel > Programs on older setups).
- Find Tux Typing, choose Uninstall, and confirm.
- Optional tidy-up: delete the install folder if it remains (by default under
C:\Program Files (x86)\TuxTyping) and the desktop shortcut.
Linux
- Flatpak:
flatpak uninstall com.tux4kids.tuxtype(add--delete-datato remove its sandbox data too). - Debian/Ubuntu:
sudo apt remove tuxtype— usepurgeinstead ofremoveif you also want configuration files gone. - Fedora:
sudo dnf remove tuxtype
Chromebook (Linux Container)
Right-click the Tux Typing icon in the Linux apps folder and choose Uninstall where offered, or open the Terminal and run sudo apt remove tuxtype. To remove Linux entirely (which deletes all Linux apps and files), go to Settings > Advanced > Developers and turn off the Linux development environment — make sure nothing else in the container is needed first.
Save Your Word Lists Before You Remove It
Custom lists are the one thing worth keeping. If you created lists with the in-game editor (guide), export or copy the TXT files first — from the same editor, or from the game’s data folder on your system — and store them with your documents. Reinstalling later takes two minutes via the download page, and your lists import straight back in.
“It Won’t Uninstall” — Rare, and Fixable
The usual cause is the game still running in the background: close it fully (check the system tray/task manager), then uninstall again. On managed school machines you may need an administrator — that is a device policy, not the program resisting removal. Tux Typing installs no services, drivers, or browser components, so a completed uninstall leaves nothing behind.
