Every Tux Typing problem fits in six buckets: it will not start, something is silent, the keyboard misbehaves, it runs badly, a word list misbehaves, or Windows argues about the installer. Find your bucket — each links to the dedicated fix.
Start & Install
- Tux Typing won’t open — the 3-cause checklist (file, compatibility, permissions).
- SmartScreen & unknown publisher — when to proceed, when to walk away.
- Uninstall Tux Typing — clean removal per platform (in the Guides section).
Sound, Keyboard, Display, Speed
- No sound — in-game option, volume mixer, Flatpak permissions, container restart.
- Keyboard not working / lag / wrong letters — focus, lag, and layout mismatch, told apart.
- Fullscreen & window size — tiny on 4K, stretched, off-screen.
- Slow or laggy — drivers, power plans, rendering paths.
Word Lists
- Word lists not showing — selection, TXT format, file location, permissions.
- Add custom word lists — the method that avoids most of those problems (Guides).
Before You Troubleshoot Anything
Half of all “bugs” with this program are a wrong or repackaged file. Confirm you are running the genuine build — name tuxtype-1.8.1-win32-installer.exe, 15,022,090 bytes on Windows; 1.8.3 from Flathub/your distro on Linux — via the download page and safety guide. Then pick your bucket above.
